Possessive nouns

A possessive noun is used to show ownership or possession. It is made by adding an apostrophe and an s.

T: What does Rebecca’s diary mean?

S: Rebecca’s diary means the diary belongs to Rebecca.

PS:

When the owners are living things, we use an apostrophe and an ‘s’ to show possession.

For non-living things, we use ‘of the’ instead.

 The cap of the pen       the roof of the house

The wheels of the truck  the hour hand of the clock
