Today I want to talk about vowels letters:

Aa Ee Ii Oo Uu

Letter a makes sound /æ/ in the word cap.

Letter a makes sound /eɪ/ in the word cape.

Letter e makes sound /e/ in the word pet.

Letter e makes sound /i:/ in the word Pete.

Letter i makes sound /i/ in the word kit.

Letter i makes sound /aɪ/ in the word kite.

Letter o makes sound /ɒ/ in the word hop.

Letter o makes sound /əʊ/ in the word hope.

Letter u makes sound /ʌ/ in the word cut.

Letter u makes sound /juː/ in the word cute

But when a, e, i, o, u meet letter R,

what will happen?

Ar makes sound /ɑː/

 in the words shark, barn,part.

Er makes sound /ɜː/ in the word person

or /ɜ/ in the words tiger, teacher.

Ir makes sound /ɜː/  

in the words shirt, bird, birch.

Or makes sound /ɔː/ 

in the words short, porch, port.

Ur makes sound /ɜː/ 

in the words curl, burn, nurse.
